Walking and Biking
from Black Badger Inn
Williamsburg is a definitely
ideal location for year-round walking, jogging, and hiking. And Black
Badger Inn has an ideal vantage situated a few blocks from the western entrance of
Colonial Williamsburg. Immerse yourself in a historical walk around Colonial Williamsburg,
or stretch your legs to include The College of William and Mary, and other scenic spots.
At sunrise, midmorning, after viewing the sites, after a
long day the car, or even a candlelight stroll, you will agree that there are few
places that make walking so enjoyable and relaxing as Williamsburg.
Joggers
can chart out runs of any length (typical
between 2-6 miles). Local maps are available. Colonial Williamsburg offers a "Joggers Guide" that
traces a 2.2 mile run around the village. The tri-fold map can be found at the
Visitors Center or other official locations. The guide also states, that for
"longer runs, it is 9 miles along the Colonial Parkway to Jamestown and 13 miles
along the Colonial Parkway to Yorktown." (not something I would
recommend, but possible! -- this would be more of a biking route).
Biking around Williamsburg is fantastic.
The level terrain, and mild weather makes Williamsburg a biking community
for at least 10 months of the year. There is an old single lane road
that goes down to the Carter's Grove Plantation (closed for now -- but the
road is still available for biking and jogging. Biking around the
historic areas is especially fun, since you get all the ambience of history
and the fun of being outdoors.
